Artistic Dialogue and Fraternal Solidarity: Morocco and Iraq United Through Art

An Exhibition to Strengthen Cultural Ties between Iraq and Morocco

Under the auspices of the Embassy of Iraq in Morocco and in close collaboration with the Moroccan Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication, an exceptional exhibition by the plastic artist Iyad Al-Mousawi was inaugurated in Rabat. Titled Conflit 24, this exhibition marks a new stage in strengthening cultural relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Iraq, providing a space for artistic dialogue between two nations united by fraternal ties and a shared vision of a future filled with solidarity and respect.

The opening gathered a crowd of influential personalities, artists, and art enthusiasts, underscoring the importance of this event in the Moroccan and Arab cultural landscape. Dr. Botan Dizayee, Chargé d’Affaires of the Iraqi Embassy in Morocco, expressed his enthusiasm for this initiative, which he noted “reinforces the partnership between the two countries.” Dr. Dizayee further emphasized that this event is the result of a flourishing cultural cooperation between Morocco and Iraq, reflecting the deep bond that unites these two sister nations.

Iyad Al-Mousawi, a plastic artist renowned for his sharp perspective on contemporary social and political realities, presented poignant and deeply symbolic works. Among them is a grand painting depicting scorched earth, a powerful reference to the suffering of Gaza, symbolizing resilience and courage for the Palestinian nation. This work, as highlighted by Dr. Dizayee, embodies the aspiration of Arab peoples for peace and justice. Through images filled with both pain and hope, Al-Mousawi invites viewers to contemplate the contradictions of our time, reminding us of the importance of solidarity between fraternal peoples.

The exhibition is all the more significant as it celebrates the recent inauguration of the Moroccan Embassy in Iraq, a strong symbol of the two countries’ commitment to closer diplomatic and cultural relations. This opening was followed by a series of high-level visits between officials from both states, underscoring a shared will to strengthen ties in various fields, including culture, which serves as a bridge between nations.

Dr. Dizayee also expressed hope that this exhibition will serve as a springboard for even more ambitious projects in the future, with larger exhibitions and similar initiatives. The support of Morocco’s Minister of Culture, His Excellency Mehdi Bensaid, was particularly acknowledged, as well as the efforts of the Kingdom of Morocco in making this exhibition a success, reflecting its commitment to cultural diplomacy.

Contradiction 24 also stands out for its contemporary approach to artistic dialogue: far from formal diplomatic discourse, it offers a direct visual exchange, where each canvas invites the viewer into the artist’s world through works that are both aesthetically pleasing and meaningful. For Al-Mousawi, art is not merely a personal mode of expression but a mirror of society, a means of raising awareness and mobilizing for a brighter future.

As Morocco celebrates the Green March, this exhibition served as a reminder of the importance of fraternity and harmony between Arab nations. By supporting such events, the Iraqi Embassy and Morocco affirm their shared desire to contribute to the influence of Arab culture and to encourage intellectual and artistic exchanges. This kind of cultural cooperation promises prosperity, unity, and mutual respect, paving the way for future collaborations that will enrich both nations and beyond.

Contradiction 24 is an invitation to reflection and solidarity, a tribute to values that transcend borders, and a true homage to the enduring bonds between Morocco and Iraq.
