Salé - The next men's African Cup of Nations (AFCON), to be held in Morocco from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026, will be "the best" celebration of African football, said the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe.

“The men’s AFCON is the biggest competition in African football. The next edition, which Morocco will host, will be the best celebration of football on the continent,” Motsepe stated on Wednesday, upon his arrival at Rabat-Salé airport to attend Women’s futsal AFCON finals between Morocco and Tanzania.

With regard to the next women’s football AFCON, to take place in the Kingdom on July 5-26, CAF President affirmed that this edition “will be a great success”.

Expressing his delight to be back in Morocco, “the land of all Africans and all those who love football”, Motsepe emphasized his “utmost trust” in Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), who was recently appointed 1st Vice-President of CAF.

Emphasizing FRMF President’s leading role in promoting African football and his great passion for the game, Motsepe affirmed that “together with Lekjaa, other vice-presidents and CAF assignees, we can elevate African football in terms of national teams, clubs, women’s football and futsal”.

Citing Morocco as an example, he also stressed the importance of partnership between governments and federations in each African country for the development of football on a continental scale.

He underlined the great enthusiasm of Moroccans for football, which contributes to the success of various competitions organized in the Kingdom, expressing his “excitement” to attend the final of the 1st Women’s Futsal AFCON, scheduled for Wednesday (8:00 p.m.) at Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat.
