In Rabat, Palestinian Minister Farsin Shaheen Warns of Genocide in Gaza and Urges Universal Recognition of the State of Palestine

With poignant gravity, Farsin Shaheen, Palestinian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, delivered a powerful statement on the sidelines of the 5th Meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, which opened this Tuesday, May 20, 2025, in Rabat. In a stark and uncompromising press briefing, the Palestinian diplomat condemned what she described as a “real-time genocide” unfolding in Gaza — a human tragedy that, she asserted, can no longer be denied by the international community.

“Gaza is being starved, bombed, displaced, and deliberately denied the means to survive. This is not a war against militants — it is a blatant attempt to erase our people,” she declared.

A Cry Against a “Policy of Annihilation”

In a speech charged with controlled anger, Shaheen denounced the systemic violence inflicted upon Palestinians, framing the current situation not as a historical accident but as the deliberate outcome of a long-standing strategy aimed at preventing the emergence of a sovereign Palestinian state.

She listed what she believes are the defining elements of genocide: deprivation of food and water, indiscriminate bombings, lack of medical aid, and forced displacement.

“We are witnessing ethnic cleansing in real time. The intent to destroy is undeniable,” she warned.

Recognition Can No Longer Wait

Reaffirming Palestine’s commitment to a peace based on justice and international law, Shaheen challenged the double standards of a world order where Palestinians’ right to self-determination remains hostage to the occupying power.

“For decades we’ve been told that recognizing the State of Palestine must result from negotiations. But that reasoning amounts to making our basic rights dependent on those who deny them,” she lamented.

Against this backdrop, Shaheen called for immediate and universal recognition of the State of Palestine — not as a symbolic gesture, but as a stabilizing political act.

A Strategic Platform for Peace

The Minister described the Rabat meeting as a strategic platform capable of uniting regional and international efforts toward a just and lasting peace. She praised the ongoing commitment of countries from Europe to Saudi Arabia to the Arab Peace Initiative, which conditions any normalization of relations with Israel on the end of the occupation and the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state.

“After 77 years of forced displacement and 56 years of occupation, this regional consensus is a significant step forward,” she said.

“The Time for Uncertainty Is Over”

Shaheen concluded her address with a clear call to action aimed at the Alliance’s member states:

“To support peace is to defend Palestine’s right to exist. 149 countries have already recognized us. This momentum must now translate into irreversible, concrete progress. It’s time to anchor Palestine in the international order. Let’s make peace a reality. The time for uncertainty is over.”

In a global context increasingly aware of the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, the Rabat appeal, voiced by a resolute Palestinian diplomacy, stands as a powerful reminder that recognizing the State of Palestine is no longer a diplomatic option — but a moral and geopolitical imperative.
