France, Morocco Aligned on Strategic Global Transport Issues – French Minister

Leipzig - French Minister Delegate for Transport Philippe Tabarot on Thursday praised Morocco’s alignment with France on several strategic issues, notably high-speed rail, during a meeting with Moroccan Transport Minister Abdessamad Kayouth on the sidelines of the International Transport Forum Summit (ITF).

Tabarot welcomed the recent launch by HM King Mohammed VI of the project to extend the high-speed rail (HSR) to Marrakech, calling it a promising step forward.

The French minister noted that French-Moroccan relations in the transport sector are entering a new phase, highlighting the effective cooperation between the two ministries and their aligned stance on global transport issues ahead of forthcoming international events.

Tabarot also praised Morocco’s organization of the recent Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety in Marrakech, emphasizing the richness of discussions, and the remarkable participation of high-level officials from numerous countries.

“Few countries in the world today are capable of bringing together so many States around such a crucial issue. The Kingdom of Morocco is one of these rare countries”, he stated.

Regarding air and maritime partnerships between Morocco and France, Tabarot praised the “perfect collaboration” between the two countries, describing it as part of a long-standing partnership poised for further growth.

“Now more than ever, our countries are cooperating closely, internationally and geopolitically, on transport-related matters, guided by a spirit of fraternity,” he concluded.

In this context, Kayouh highlighted the strong progress in air travel and the aligned views between the two countries on maritime travel ahead of upcoming elections for the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

The minister also noted that he and his French counterpart had agreed on mutual support within international forums, particularly the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the IMO.
