Joint Military Exercise “African Lion 2025”: Ceremony Held in Honor of Participating Countries’ Representatives
A ceremony was held on Thursday at the headquarters of the Southern Zone General Staff in Agadir, in honor of the representatives of the countries participating in the "African Lion 2025" exercise, which is taking place in accordance with the High Instructions of His Majesty the King, Supreme Commander and Chief of the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR).

Speaking on the occasion, General of the Army Corps Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of the FAR and Commander of the Southern Zone, emphasized that the “African Lion” exercise reflects the level of maturity reached in the military cooperation between Morocco and the United States, noting that these maneuvers demonstrate a shared commitment to the principles of security and peace, as well as the consolidation and unification of concepts in light of current changes on the international scene.
In this regard, and in accordance with the Royal High Instructions, Morocco places great importance on maintaining peace and stability on the African continent by strengthening the principle of South-South partnership, he stated, highlighting the participation of personnel from several African armies in the exercise, as well as Morocco’s support in the area of ongoing training, through sessions organized at military institutes and schools under the FAR.
For his part, General Michael Langley, Commander of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), stated that the United States and Morocco are building a relationship based on military cooperation and shared interests, adding that “African Lion is more than an exercise. It is the largest military engagement on the continent.”
“Together—African nations, European partners and allies, and even those from across the world—are gathered here to witness how troops come together and work toward interoperability, effectiveness, and greater global cohesion,” he emphasized.
“African Lion” is a joint, combined military exercise held annually by the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and the U.S. Armed Forces.
The exercise, which continues until May 23 across the regions of Agadir, Tan-Tan, Tiznit, Kenitra, Benguerir, and Tifnit, serves as an annual event that not only consolidates Moroccan-American military cooperation but also promotes exchange among the armed forces of various nations, with the aim of enhancing security and stability in the region.
