Morocco – Ecuador: A Growing Diplomatic Relationship, Guided by Sovereignty and Mutual Respect
In a highly symbolic gesture, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad, Nasser Bourita, represented His Majesty King Mohammed VI this Saturday, May 24, in Quito, at the inauguration ceremony of His Excellency Mr. Daniel Noboa Azin, the newly elected President of the Republic of Ecuador. This high-level presence highlights the growing strength of the ties between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Ecuador, marking a new phase in a promising and strategic diplomatic relationship.

A Friendship Strengthened by Sovereign Choices
This official visit comes just months after a historic decision: on October 22, 2024, Ecuador announced the suspension of its recognition of the so-called “SADR”, joining the growing number of nations supporting Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and welcoming the Moroccan Autonomy Plan as the only realistic, serious, and credible solution to the regional dispute.
This bold and sovereign decision is fully in line with the dynamic initiated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, characterized by diplomacy based on clarity, dialogue, and respect for international law — a dynamic that has significantly reinforced Morocco’s position on the global stage.
Toward a Strategic South-South Partnership
Morocco’s presence at President Daniel Noboa’s inauguration reflects both countries’ shared will to elevate their partnership to a higher level, exploring new avenues of bilateral cooperation in diverse sectors such as agriculture, energy, food security, scientific research, and climate change mitigation.
Morocco, with its African and Arab roots, and Ecuador, a dynamic nation in Latin America, share a common vision of balanced multilateralism, rooted in solidarity, national sovereignty, and mutual development.
A Visionary Royal Diplomacy
This new chapter in Morocco-Ecuador relations once again illustrates the relevance and foresight of Moroccan diplomacy, guided by the High Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, who places the strengthening of South-South relations at the heart of the Kingdom’s foreign policy.
