Moroccan FM Holds Working Session with Ecuadorian Peer
Quito - Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita held a working session in Quito with Ecuadorian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility Gabriela Sommerfeld.

Bourita was accompanied by Morocco’s Ambassador to Colombia and Ecuador Farida Loudaya.
In a statement to the press, he noted that this marks the first visit by a Moroccan foreign minister to Ecuador since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1988, calling it a “historic moment for our bilateral relations”.
“Our two countries have opened a new chapter in their bilateral relations following President Noboa’s decision in October 2024 to suspend relations with the so-called +sadr+ (…)”, he continued.
Bourita added that “from that point forward, and on instructions of His Majesty the King and President Noboa, we signed a roadmap to promote South-South ties between two countries that are geographically distant, but very close on several issues”.
Listing areas of bilateral cooperation, the Minister highlighted that “we have developed cooperation in many areas of common interest, including the economic, agricultural and human dimensions, through granting scholarships”.
On this occasion, the Ecuadorian minister announced the forthcoming opening of her country’s embassy in Rabat, which will be Ecuador’s first diplomatic representation in the Maghreb.
