Fouzi Lekjaa: “The 2030 World Cup is a major sporting event and a historic milestone that strengthens cooperation between both shores of the Mediterranean”
The President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Fouzi Lekjaa, declared on Wednesday in Marrakech that the FIFA World Cup 2030 is a major sporting event and a historic occasion that firmly anchors the bridges of cooperation between the two shores of the Mediterranean Basin.

In a message read on his behalf by M’hamed Makrouf, advisor and spokesperson for the Federation, during the opening session of the 33rd General Assembly of the Alliance of Mediterranean News Agencies (AMAN), Mr. Lekjaa stated:
“The 2030 World Cup will be the World Cup of the Mediterranean, the World Cup of two continents—Europe and Africa. I believe no other sporting event has ever embodied such diversity. This is why we are facing a historic opportunity to build cross-border bridges.”
He added:
“Alongside our friends from Portugal and Spain, we will spare no effort to ensure the best possible conditions for organizing this event, which will stand as one of the major milestones in the history of football, as well as in the history of cooperation between both sides of the Mediterranean.”
He also emphasized that preparations for the World Cup in Morocco are being directly overseen by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, who is deeply convinced of the human and universal values that this global event promotes—for the benefit of nations, peoples, and especially the youth, who carry the hopes for a better future.
The Essential Role of Media in the Success of the 2030 World Cup
In this context, Mr. Lekjaa stressed that media engagement is not merely a complementary aspect of the football ecosystem, but rather an essential and inseparable component.
“Football cannot exist without close media support. And cross-border bridges cannot be built without the media acting as the cement that holds them together.”
He underlined that the success of major events largely depends on the active involvement of news agencies and their ability to deliver professional multimedia coverage.
“The news agency is the unsung hero that can turn the tide of the battle, even if its name isn’t always the most prominent among the players involved.”
Finally, the FRMF president concluded by highlighting that the news agency is the main channel of information—best positioned to uncover the details, guided by professional ethics and journalistic principles—which enables it to provide credible and rigorous service to both media professionals and the general public.
A Platform for Cooperation and Morocco’s Visibility
Held under the theme “Football and Media in the Mediterranean: Building Bridges Beyond Borders,” the event in Marrakech brings together directors general and representatives of AMAN member agencies. It serves as a strategic opportunity to spotlight the major projects launched by the Kingdom of Morocco under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in preparation for hosting the 2030 World Cup.
The program of this session—now presided over for a year by the Maghreb Arab Press Agency (MAP)—also includes a symposium on:
“The FIFA World Cup 2030: Challenges and the Role of Mediterranean News Agencies,”
with the participation of numerous figures from the football world and media professionals.
