C-24/Sahara: Commonwealth of Dominica Reaffirms “Full Support” for Morocco’s Autonomy Plan, “The Compromise Solution”
Dili (Timor-Leste) - The Commonwealth of Dominica reaffirmed, before the United Nations Committee of 24 (C-24), its “full support” for Morocco's Autonomy plan for the Sahara, deeming it “the compromise solution” to the regional dispute.

Speaking at the C-24 regional seminar held recently in Dili, Timor-Leste, the Permanent Representative of the Commonwealth of Dominica to the UN, Ambassador Philbert Aaron, underscored the conformity of the Autonomy Initiative with international law, the UN Charter, and Security Council and General Assembly resolutions.
Expressing his country’s “full support” for the political process conducted under the auspices of the UN with a view to reaching a realistic, pragmatic and mutually acceptable solution to the regional conflict over the Moroccan Sahara, the diplomat highlighted the role of the UN Secretary-General in advancing efforts towards a settlement of this issue in accordance with the recommendations of the Security Council.
He also referred to the role of the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy to the Moroccan Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, in reviving the political process.
The diplomat renewed the call for the continued engagement among Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania and the “polisario”, in the UN process of round table talks in accordance with resolution 2703.
He further commended Morocco for its efforts at developing the Sahara, resulting in improved quality of life and broader opportunities for inhabitants of the Southern provinces. This Development has resulted in improved infrastructure and advancements in Health care education and housing, he said.
He concluded by welcoming Morocco’s commitment to respect the ceasefire and Military Agreements which will further contribute to peace in the region.
