Nasser Bourita Receives João Gomes Cravinho, EU Special Representative for the Sahel
Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, received João Gomes Cravinho, the European Union Special Representative for the Sahel, this Friday in Rabat, as part of a working visit focused on the strategic and security challenges in this fragile region.

During the meeting, Cravinho highlighted Morocco’s pivotal and structuring role in the Sahel region, emphasizing that Morocco is a key partner of the European Union in addressing the multiple challenges related to stability, development, and security in the area.
The EU diplomat praised Morocco’s multidimensional approach, implemented under the visionary leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in its cooperation with Sahel countries. This includes collaboration in areas such as education and training, food security, counterterrorism, and the management of migration flows.
The meeting also reaffirmed the shared vision between Rabat and Brussels on the importance of strengthening regional partnerships based on shared responsibility, solidarity, and respect for state sovereignty. Cravinho especially commended Morocco’s pragmatic and sustainable approach to African cooperation, which is grounded in mutual listening and practical engagement.
For his part, Nasser Bourita reiterated Morocco’s unwavering commitment to an integrated approach to achieving stability in the Sahel. He stressed the importance of addressing the root causes of instability, rather than relying solely on a security response. Bourita reaffirmed Morocco’s readiness to work with all partners, including the EU, to promote inclusive human development and strengthen South-South cooperation.
