Washington: Morocco Celebrates Africa Day, Advocates for Co-Development and Active Solidarity

The Embassy of Morocco in the United States celebrated World Africa Day in Washington alongside several African diplomatic missions. The event was an opportunity to celebrate unity, diversity, and shared aspirations, and to highlight the growing dynamics of cooperation between Africa and its global partners.

Speaking at the event, which was held at the headquarters of the African Union (AU) diplomatic mission, Morocco’s Ambassador to Washington, Youssef Amrani, emphasized that Africa is no longer dependent on a prescribed place or conditioned aid. Instead, it is a continent asserting itself as a key player in shaping its own destiny, creating new global balances, and emerging as an essential interlocutor on the international stage.

In this context, the ambassador stated that Morocco’s core commitment is to build bridges, connect destinies, and shape paths of convergence between nations.

Ambassador Amrani highlighted the strategic choices of His Majesty King Mohammed VI in support of the African continent, which reflect a clear, consistent, and humanistic vision of South-South cooperation. This vision places Africa at the center of new geopolitical routes, grounded in mutual respect, co-development, and active solidarity.

Referencing Morocco’s initiatives for Africa’s co-development, the ambassador cited the Dakhla Atlantic Port, describing it as a strategic logistical and commercial hub designed as a gateway to the Sahel, a catalyst for African economic and energy corridors, and a driver of genuine regional integration.

This project is fully aligned with the Atlantic Initiative, launched by His Majesty the King to strengthen structural ties between Morocco and Atlantic African countries, with the aim of fostering stability, shared prosperity, and inclusive, transversal security, Amrani noted.

The ambassador also stressed that Africa’s future can only be envisioned through the connection of nations and peoples, based on three core imperatives: shared progress, enhanced connectivity, and greater convergence of interests.

“Together, the nations of the continent bear a great responsibility and hold immense potential,” he said, adding that “Africa will be the geopolitical heart of global balance.”

This position, he concluded, requires the continent to demonstrate concrete commitments and maintain a clear-sighted approach to accompany its emergence on the world stage.
