Peru’s Congress Adopts Historic Motion in Support of Morocco’s Sovereignty Over Its Sahara

This marks the second such motion adopted by the Peruvian Parliament in 2025, underscoring the country’s consistent and firm stance—rooted in a long-standing friendship with Morocco since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1964. Peru’s support stands as a testament to the effectiveness of Morocco’s proactive diplomacy, driven by the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

A Strong Response to the Threat of Separatism

In the text of the motion, Congresswoman Carmen Patricia Juárez Gallegos, the signatory of the initiative, warned the international community about the dangers posed by the Polisario Front, citing its documented ties with terrorist organizations such as Hezbollah, as well as its involvement in arms and human trafficking networks, and the exploitation of minors in the Tindouf camps located in Algerian territory.

The Peruvian Congress called on international institutions to seriously examine these grave allegations and consider classifying the Polisario as a terrorist organization—a bold and rare political stance in today’s geopolitical climate.

An Irreversible Global Momentum

Peru’s new position aligns with a growing international movement in favor of the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative, already backed by global powers including the United States, France, Spain, and the United Kingdom. The expanding circle of support highlights Morocco’s rising strategic credibility and the increasing isolation of parties opposing the Kingdom’s territorial integrity.

Through this motion, Peru also commends Morocco’s responsible foreign policy, recognizing the Kingdom as a pillar of peace, stability, and development in Africa and the Maghreb.
