The United Kingdom and Morocco Hand in Hand for an Ambitious Sporting and Infrastructure Future
As part of his official visit to Morocco, UK Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs David Lammy visited the Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, one of the crown jewels of Morocco’s sports infrastructure, currently being prepared to host the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) this coming December.

This visit highlights not only the UK’s strategic interest in Morocco’s major development projects, but also the strength and mutual trust underpinning bilateral relations between the two Kingdoms. On this occasion, Mr. Lammy praised the outstanding quality of Moroccan facilities and the effective cooperation between British and Moroccan companies to deliver a pitch that meets the highest international football standards.
But beyond AFCON 2025, the focus is already shifting toward 2030, when Morocco will co-host the FIFA World Cup. Additional agreements have been signed between UK Export Finance (UKEF)—the UK’s export credit agency—and several Moroccan firms to support the development of transformative infrastructure projects that go far beyond stadiums. These include mobility, urban planning, logistics, and land development.
This dynamic partnership reaffirms the UK’s commitment to supporting Morocco on its path to modernization, placing excellence, innovation, and shared expertise at the heart of their joint ventures.
With a shared vision and global ambitions, Morocco and the United Kingdom offer a shining example of forward-looking international cooperation in the service of sport, sustainable development, and global influence.
