UN C24: Qatar Reaffirms Support for Morocco’s Autonomy Plan – “A Constructive Initiative”
The State of Qatar has reaffirmed its support for Morocco’s Autonomy Plan as the basis for a final resolution to the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, during the United Nations Committee of 24 (C24) session currently taking place in New York.
Describing it as a “constructive initiative,” the Qatari representative emphasized that the Autonomy Plan provides a realistic foundation for resolving the issue. He made this statement during the C24’s regular session, which runs until Friday.
The Qatari diplomat also expressed his country’s support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy to facilitate a political, durable, and compromise-based solution within the framework of the UN-led political process. He stressed that this approach should remain consistent with Security Council resolutions, including Resolution 2756, and should fully respect Morocco’s sovereignty.
