Wydad, Morocco’s Pride, Steps onto the Global Stage Against Fearsome Manchester City

Today marks a history for Wydad Casablanca. The legendary Moroccan club makes its long awaited debut in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, a global tournament that brings together the elite of world football. For their opening match, Wydad will face one of Europe’s undisputed powerhouses: Manchester City.

Drawn into the highly competitive Group G alongside the English champions, Juventus of Turin, and Al Ain from the United Arab Emirates, Wydad knows it must deliver an intense performance to stand out in a tournament where excellence is the norm.

Aware of the magnitude of the event, the Casablanca club has spared no effort in strengthening its squad. Several quality signings have bolstered an already experienced group, including Dutch defender Bart Meijers, Burkinabé playmaker Aziz Ki, Syrian striker Omar Souma, Brazilian forward Guilhermo Ferreira, as well as seasoned Moroccan international Nordin Amrabat and Hamza Hannouri, who arrived from FUS Rabat.

This targeted recruitment reflects Wydad’s ambition: to rise among the football elite and proudly represent Morocco on the world stage.

The matchup between Wydad and Manchester City will take place at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field, a 67,000-seat stadium known for its electric atmosphere. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. (Moroccan time) in a stadium guaranteed to be sold out.

The match will be broadcast on several international channels, including DAZN, Channel 5 UK, and SuperSport Premier League, allowing Moroccan supporters, wherever they might be, to follow the high-stakes encounter.

Beyond the sporting challenge, this participation symbolizes the growing prominence of Moroccan football on the international scene. Wydad embodies this momentum, fueled by the enthusiasm of thousands of supporters who have traveled from across the globe for the occasion.

In a charged atmosphere, Wydad’s players will seek to shake up the established order and echo the passion of their red-and-white faithful far beyond Morocco’s borders. Facing a formidable opponent like Manchester City, every moment will count. But in football, the impossible doesn’t exist, especially when you’re named Wydad.
