Guatemalan Ambassador: Dakhla Is a Strategic Bridge Between Africa and Latin America
Dakhla – With its growing economic potential and prime geographic location, Morocco’s southern region of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab stands out as a strategic gateway linking Africa and Latin America, said Guatemala’s Ambassador to Morocco, Marco Tulio Gustavo Chicas Sosa, during an official visit on Wednesday.

“Dakhla holds particular importance for Guatemala due to its position at the heart of the Atlantic and Morocco’s forward-looking approach to Africa,” the ambassador told the press, highlighting how the city aligns with his country’s vision for deeper intercontinental cooperation.
He emphasized Dakhla’s role in promoting a renewed model of South-South collaboration, one rooted in peace, development, and shared solidarity between regions. He also praised the pace of development in the area, especially the major infrastructure projects underway, such as the upcoming Dakhla Atlantic Port.
For his part, Moulay Boutal Lembarki, Vice President of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab Regional Council, said the ambassador’s visit was a valuable opportunity to showcase the region’s economic reality and its promising future.
He noted that the visit also served to spotlight major strategic initiatives, including the Royal vision to connect Sahel countries to the Atlantic Ocean, and the massive Atlantic African Gas Pipeline project, both flagship elements of Morocco’s South-South cooperation agenda led by His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
During his tour, Ambassador Chicas Sosa met with the Wali (governor) of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, Ali Khalil, and the Vice President of the Regional Council. These meetings explored the region’s key economic assets, ongoing development programs, and investment support mechanisms.
Accompanied by Williams Haroldo Cordón Loyo, Guatemala’s Consul General in Dakhla, the ambassador visited the construction site of the Dakhla Atlantic Port. There, he received a briefing on the progress of the works, the scope of the future infrastructure, and the potential this project holds for boosting regional and intercontinental trade.
The ambassador’s visit also included meetings with the heads of the region’s Chamber of Agriculture and Chamber of Commerce, as well as stops at the Regional Directorate of Culture and the headquarters of Guatemala’s Consulate General in Dakhla.
