Morocco, France Discuss Women’s Employment, Gender Equality

Rabat - Morocco’s Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah, met on Monday in Rabat with France’s Minister Delegate for Gender Equality and the Fight against Discrimination, Aurore Bergé, for talks centered on women’s employment and economic inclusion.

Both officials discussed strategies to improve female labor force participation, with a focus on breaking down structural barriers to employment, advancing gender-responsive budgeting, and promoting inclusive economic models such as women’s cooperatives and the social economy.

Fettah emphasized that women’s employment is a strategic national priority, especially amid persistently high unemployment and the heightened vulnerability of women’s jobs during economic downturns. She pointed to Morocco’s progress in gender-responsive budgeting and underlined the need for improved impact assessments and measurable results.

For her part, Bergé stressed the importance of addressing deep-rooted inequalities that affect women’s access to the labor market, including gendered career paths, unequal caregiving responsibilities, and rigid work structures.

She also called for a more holistic approach that integrates gender equality into both corporate practices and public policy.

The meeting forms part of Bergé’s three-day official visit to Morocco aimed at reinforcing bilateral ties and cooperation on social, political, and economic issues, with a particular emphasis on advancing equality and inclusion.
