Morocco, Salvador to Bolster Bilateral Cooperation Across Various Areas

San Salvador - Morocco's Upper House Speaker Mohamed Ould Errachid and Salvador's Vice President Félix Ulloa met on Wednesday in San Salvador to discuss ways of strengthening bilateral cooperation across various sectors.

The talks took place on the sidelines of Ould Errachid’s visit to the Salvadoran capital, leading a high-level parliamentary delegation to participate in the Parliamentary Economic Forum on Investment and Development,co-organised by the Central American Parliament and Morocco’s Upper House.

Taking pride in the level of relations his country entertains with Morocco, Ulloa hailed the positive momentum these ties have gained since the country’s decision to sever ties with the so-called “SADR” in 2019 and to open an embassy in Rabat in 2021.

Ulloa reaffirmed his country’s steadfast and continued support of the Kingdom’s territorial integrity and the Moroccan autonomy initiative, which he described as a serious, realistic and credible solution to the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.

The Salvadoran official further emphasized that the new diplomatic mission in Morocco reflects his country’s willingness to strengthen its presence on the African continent, noting that Morocco represents a strategic gateway to sub-Saharan Africa, namely given its political stability and regional leadership.

“With the support of the government of HM the King, we seek to expand the areas of cooperation with Morocco,” he said, highlighting his country’s interest in building partnerships in several sectors such as fisheries and agriculture.

Vice President Ulloa also welcomed the current level of cooperation with Morocco, particularly in terms of knowledge-sharing and technical assistance in priority development areas.

He further praised Morocco’s pioneering experience in development, sharing his country’s interest in benefiting from this expertise within the framework of an efficient and balanced South-South cooperation.
