Peru’s Congress Reaffirms Support for Morocco’s Sovereignty Over the Sahara During Official Visit to Rabat
Rabat - In a renewed show of diplomatic support, the President of the Congress of the Republic of Peru, Eduardo Salhuana Cavides, reaffirmed his country’s backing of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and its autonomy initiative, during high-level talks held on Monday, June 30, 2025.

Mr. Salhuana Cavides, who is leading a major Peruvian parliamentary delegation on an official visit to Morocco from June 29 to July 6, met with Rachid Talbi Alami, President of Morocco’s House of Representatives, at Parliament headquarters in Rabat.
During the meeting, which also included Mustafa Ibrahimi, head of the Morocco-Peru Parliamentary Friendship Group, Mr. Talbi Alami warmly welcomed the Peruvian delegation and expressed gratitude for Peru’s consistent and positive stance in support of Morocco’s territorial integrity. He reiterated Morocco’s appreciation for Peru’s backing of the autonomy plan proposed by the Kingdom as the only realistic and credible solution to the artificial dispute over its southern provinces.
Talbi Alami also highlighted the major development initiatives led by King Mohammed VI, emphasizing the Kingdom’s steady progress across various sectors, with particular focus on the rapid economic and infrastructural transformation in the southern regions.
For his part, President Salhuana Cavides praised the longstanding bonds of friendship between Peru and Morocco, noting that both countries are bound by shared values such as democracy, respect for human rights and freedoms, and a firm commitment to peace and stability. He also welcomed the deepening cooperation between the two nations and expressed interest in benefiting from Morocco’s growing expertise in a number of fields where it has become a regional leader under the wise leadership of King Mohammed VI.
In his remarks, the Peruvian leader once again reiterated his country’s support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and its autonomy initiative, describing it as the only viable path toward resolving the Sahara issue.
