ONDA Launches Groundworks for New Terminal at Casablanca’s Mohammed V Airport
The National Airports Office (ONDA) has officially announced the start of earthworks for the new terminal at Casablanca’s Mohammed V Airport — marking the first concrete step in one of Morocco’s most ambitious infrastructure projects ahead of 2030.

With a total investment estimated at 15 billion dirhams, the new terminal is designed to accommodate an additional 20 million passengers per year, bringing the airport’s total capacity to 35 million, ONDA stated in an official release.
This large-scale transformation is part of the national “Airports 2030” strategy led by ONDA, which prioritizes innovation, sustainability, and connectivity at the core of its vision.
Following a public tender, earthworks have been awarded to STAM, a major national player. This preparatory phase will last eight months and is essential for the construction of the future terminal, scheduled to open in 2029.
The project now enters its physical phase after months of architectural and technical studies conducted by an international consortium including Ala Concept, RSHP Architects, and Egis Bâtiments International — the minds behind world-renowned terminals in London, Madrid, and Geneva. The future terminal will embody Morocco’s vision of full integration into global economic and tourism flows.
Casablanca is set to bolster its position as a strategic intercontinental hub, linking Europe, Africa, and the Americas, while also supporting the continued growth of Royal Air Maroc.
Conceived as a state-of-the-art terminal, the facility will feature a fully digitalized and streamlined passenger experience, high standards of energy efficiency, enhanced climate resilience, and a high-speed rail station connecting the airport to Rabat in 30 minutes and to Marrakech in under an hour, according to ONDA.
To ensure excellence in execution, an international Call for Expressions of Interest was launched beforehand to identify the most qualified firms. Concluded at the end of May 2025, it attracted proposals from 27 consortia — both Moroccan and international — with proven expertise in complex airport infrastructure. The construction bidding process began in July, with contract awards expected before the end of the year.
With the launch of groundworks, ONDA is bringing the “Airports 2030” strategy to life at the heart of Morocco’s national ambitions.
Casablanca thus positions itself as a key aviation hub, ready to welcome the world and proudly represent Morocco during the 2030 FIFA World Cup — opening a new era of connectivity, growth, and global visibility.
