Morocco Targets 1.7 Bln m³ in Desalinated Water by 2030
Rabat - Morocco’s seawater desalination projects are progressing steadily, with the aim of reaching an annual capacity of 1.7 billion cubic meters by 2030, Equipment and Water Minister Nizar Baraka said on Wednesday.

The program also includes rescheduling certain dam projects and accelerating work on priority ones, in line with royal directives for sustainable water policy, Baraka underlined following a meeting of the steering committee of the National Drinking Water Supply and Irrigation Program 2020–2027 (PNAEPI 20–27), chaired by Head of government Aziz Akhannouch.
He noted a slight improvement in water availability, despite continued pressure on resources due to rising temperatures. Several rural areas are still experiencing shortages, prompting the government to deploy emergency measures, including additional water tankers and the fast-tracking of infrastructure investments.
Baraka added that the ministry is working closely with regional stakeholders to ensure a steady drinking water supply during summer months through consumption management and localized resource mobilization.
