Niger Eyes Moroccan Know-How to Upgrade Air, Rail, and Road Systems

Rabat - During a business trip to Morocco, Nigerien Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Major Colonel Abdourahamane Amadou praised the Kingdom’s progress in the transport sector, saying the purpose of his visit was to learn from Morocco’s governance, regulation, and infrastructure best practices.

During talks on Wednesday with his Moroccan counterpart, Abdessamad Kayouh, the Nigerien official—who led a high-profile delegation—conveyed his country’s intention to draw on Moroccan expertise in establishing a national airline, developing the railway network, and improving road safety.

The meeting focused on ways to bolster bilateral cooperation in the fields of transport and logistics, and served to explore future collaboration between the two countries in air, rail and road transport.

Amadou also emphasized Niger’s aspiration to build an integrated and efficient transport system to overcome the challenges posed by its landlocked geography.

Additionally, he praised Morocco’s consistent support for Niger’s development and voiced his country’s desire to strengthen bilateral relations based on African solidarity and sustainable partnership.

For his part, Minister Kayouh affirmed Morocco’s intention to establish a mutually beneficial partnership with Niger in this sector, particularly through training and technical support.

In this respect, the government official highlighted the significance of the Royal Atlantic Initiative which seeks to connect the Sahel countries, including Niger, to the Atlantic coast, thereby helping break their isolation and stimulating their commercial, industrial, and agricultural exchanges.

Kayouh also underscored Morocco’s commitment to supporting Niger by offering high-level technical training for its students, emphasizing the Kingdom’s expertise in transport infrastructure and safety, rail network development, and the modernization of airport facilities.
