France and Morocco Seal a Strategic Partnership in the Defense Industry

Franco-Moroccan relations, rooted in a strong historical legacy and ongoing dialogue, have reached a new and decisive milestone. On Thursday, the French Directorate General of Armaments (DGA) signed a strategic partnership agreement with two key players in Morocco’s industrial and academic landscape: Maghreb Steel, a flagship of the national steel industry, and Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), a leading institution in scientific and technological innovation.

This ambitious agreement aims to develop joint research programs in the field of the military industry, underscoring the two countries’ commitment to building a long-term, high-value cooperation in advanced technology and industrial sovereignty.

The tripartite alliance also expands with the involvement of Naval Group, the French naval defense giant renowned worldwide for its technological excellence and innovation capabilities. The presence of this group strengthens the multidimensional nature of the partnership, spanning land, naval, academic, and industrial domains.

As part of this initiative, the creation of a Joint Armaments Commission was also announced. This strategic body will oversee the monitoring, coordination, and implementation of cooperation projects. It will work in particular to promote the development of local industrial networks, the transfer of skills and technologies, and the reinforcement of Morocco’s defensive sovereignty.

This partnership reflects the exemplary nature of Franco-Moroccan relations, based on mutual trust, strategic interdependence, and a shared vision of contemporary geopolitical challenges. It also embodies a mutual ambition to build a future focused on innovation, industrial autonomy, and balanced South-North cooperation.

Under the guidance of the highest authorities of both countries, Morocco and France reaffirm their commitment to an active diplomacy and to concrete collaboration in vital sectors, for the benefit of regional stability and mutual development.
