Joint Organization of 2030 World Cup to Accelerate Morocco’s Strategic Transformation – Gov’t Chief

Rabat - The Kingdom of Morocco's joint organization of the 2030 World Cup with Spain and Portugal is more than a global sporting event, it is a strategic lever and accelerator for transformation, Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, stated on Friday in Rabat.

Speaking in a video address at the opening of the 8th edition of the Morocco Today Forum (MTF), held under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Akhannouch said that the event provides an opportunity to realize the Royal Will to consolidate the foundations of a dynamic, inclusive, and sovereign Morocco. It is a collective ambition and national momentum that makes the country “confident in its ability not only to meet the expectations of the 2030 World Cup but also to make it a new impetus for development,” he said.

Driven by the guidelines of HM the King, the government is fully engaged in this development momentum and is working to translate the Royal vision into concrete, measurable, and integrated actions across all sectors, he noted.

Akhannouch highlighted the numerous projects completed or underway, citing state-of-the-art infrastructure, a high-speed rail network, major airport hubs, highways, roads, urban ring roads, as well as tourism and hospital infrastructure. These projects are being implemented within the framework of relevant sectoral strategies and agile, transparent governance.

He added that sporting infrastructure is also undergoing significant development to meet the best international standards. These facilities are intended to host major international sporting events and also serve as a lever for growth and social cohesion in several cities across the country.

The hotel sector is also undergoing a profound transformation, driven by unprecedented growth in demand for Morocco as a destination, with a record 17.4 million tourists in 2024, Akhannouch said.

The influx of both domestic and foreign investment confirms this dynamic across all sectors, testifying to an innovative and competitive economic transformation that creates value and opportunities for current and future generations of youth.

Morocco’s partners, among global leaders in their respective sectors, as well as the national entrepreneurial ecosystem, are aligning with the opportunities offered by the Kingdom’s focus on advanced industries, clean energy, telecommunications, and digitalization, he noted. In many of these sectors, Morocco is moving toward becoming a continental, regional, and even international benchmark, he maintained.

Parallel to this, the government remains focused on strengthening the foundations of the Social State, a vision championed by HM King Mohammed VI, which places citizens at the heart of public action. In this regard, the social protection program, which the Sovereign has placed under his high patronage and which is a key driver for building the Morocco of tomorrow, is being deployed according to the set timelines.

“We are convinced that the organization of the 2030 World Cup will enshrine and accelerate this metamorphosis of Morocco under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and seal our country’s transition to a new dimension of development, which will be a lasting legacy for future generations,” Akhannouch concluded.
