Morocco’s Lower House, Vietnam’s National Assembly Ink Cooperation Agreement

Rabat - Morocco's House of Representatives and the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam inked cooperation agreement on Friday in Rabat, with a view to strengthening parliamentary relations, ties of friendship and multi-dimensional cooperation between the two legislative institutions.

Under the terms of the agreement, initialed by Lower House Speaker Rachid Talbi Alami and President of the National Assembly of Vietnam Tran Thanh Man, the two parties commit to promote parliamentary cooperation to enhance ties of friendship and multifaceted cooperation, on the basis of a positive and mutual partnership, within the scope of their respective functions, duties and powers, and in accordance with their domestic laws and the international treaties they have ratified.

The two parties also undertake to encourage exchanges and regular visits by delegations, in accordance with their demands and capabilities, with a view to fostering mutual understanding and facilitating discussions of issues of mutual interest.

To this end, the agreement provides for the implementation by both parties of a mechanism of regular exchange of information on legislative and parliamentary activities, as well as the creation of capacity-building mechanisms in the fields of legislation, supervision and administrative and financial management, through the organization of programs, seminars and roundtables on topics of common interest for MPs and parliamentary officials from both countries.

The two sides also agreed to actively strengthen coordination between their parliamentary delegations at regional and international fora, including the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie, in addition to increasing cooperation and exchange activities, as well as mutual visits between the two countries’ parliamentary Friendship Groups.
