Al-Quds University Hosts Academic Event on Occasion of Throne Day
Al-Quds - Al-Quds University hosted on Saturday an academic event marking Morocco’s Throne Day, held under the Moroccan Studies Chair, in the presence of Moroccan and Palestinian officials and scholars.

The event, themed “Throne Day in the Kingdom of Morocco: Between Tradition and Ambitions for Reform and Modernization,” brought together the Moroccan ambassador to Palestine, Abderrahim Meziane, the Managing Director of the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Asharif Agency, Mohamed Salem Cherkaoui, and the Chair’s president, Safa Nasser Eddine.
Speaking on behalf of the University’s president, Vice-President for Academic Affairs, Ahmed Al-Qutb, welcomed the establishment of the Moroccan Studies Chair as a platform to strengthen scientific and cultural ties between Palestine and Morocco.
Al-Qutb praised the participation of Moroccan officials and academics, saying the event offered Palestinian students and professors a valuable opportunity to explore Morocco’s institutions, history, cultural icons, literature, and arts, all core objectives of the Chair.
For his part, Cherkaoui said the Chair consolidates Morocco’s academic footprint in Palestine, as part of the institutional network the Kingdom has established in Al-Quds, including the Moroccan Cultural Center “Bayt Al-Maghrib” in the Old City, the “Arribat” Observatory for monitoring and evaluation in Sheikh Jarrah, and the “Bayt Al-Maqdis” research center housed at the Agency’s headquarters in Rabat.
This integrated framework, he noted, reflects Morocco’s historic presence in Al-Quds and Palestine, grounded in longstanding principles of solidarity, once embodied in resistance and sacrifice, now renewed through knowledge and the humanities in service of the Palestinian cause.
In his address, Ambassador Meziane highlighted the uniqueness of Morocco’s model in ensuring state continuity and institutional development, focusing in particular on Throne Day and its historical, political, legal, and religious significance.
He also underscored the efforts led by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, in support of the Palestinian cause.
Prior to the official opening of the event, participants visited an exhibition showcasing projects and publications by the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Asharif Agency, aimed at informing students and faculty about the Agency’s initiatives and their impact on residents of Al-Quds.
