A Royal Message of Wisdom, Brotherhood and Sovereignty Directed at the Algerian Regime

On the occasion of the 26th anniversary of Throne Day, His Majesty King Mohammed VI once again embodied reason, wisdom, and fraternity in a speech of remarkable moral stature, particularly in his message to the Algerian regime. Despite years of hostile maneuvers from Algiers, the Sovereign maintained a tone of peace and unity, offering a powerful contrast to the rhetoric coming from across the border.

In a deeply human and resonant moment, the King reaffirmed that “the Algerian people are a brotherly people,” bound to Moroccans by “centuries-old human and historical ties,” as well as “language, religion, geography and a shared destiny.” It was a noble and powerful reminder that stood in stark contrast to the aggressive discourse regularly voiced by Algeria’s military leadership, still trapped in outdated ideological positions.

Rather than respond with provocation or resentment, King Mohammed VI renewed his “policy of outstretched hand,” once again calling for “frank and responsible dialogue” between “brothers,” and expressing his sincere belief in the “shared ability to overcome this regrettable situation.” This language of peace and dignity strongly contrasts with Algeria’s recent frustrations, especially following the clear reaffirmation by U.S. ambassador-designate Richard Buchan of Washington’s continued recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara.

The King also highlighted the growing international support for the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative, calling it the “one and only solution” to the Sahara dispute. He welcomed the constructive stances of countries such as the United Kingdom and Portugal, while implicitly pointing to the growing isolation of those clinging to separatist claims that have no place in today’s world, and that reject the spirit of compromise advocated by the United Nations.

The Throne Day address extended a sincere olive branch to Algeria, while firmly upholding Morocco’s unwavering commitment to its sovereignty. The King reiterated his belief in a shared Maghreb future, reminding the nation of the original vision of the Arab Maghreb Union—a vision still blocked by outdated grievances and political deadlock on both sides of the eastern border.

In sum, His Majesty’s speech stands as a clear act of political nobility, a reaffirmation of peace-driven values, and a powerful commitment to a sovereign, united Morocco that remains firmly focused on regional cooperation and global recognition. The Kingdom speaks with dignity, with clarity, and above all, with an unshakable faith in the justice of its cause.
