Moroccan Ambassador to Washington, Youssef Amrani: WAC’s Participation in the Club World Cup Is a Strong Signal of the “Major Progress” of National Sports
The participation of Wydad Casablanca in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, which kicks off this Sunday in the United States, is a strong testament to the “major progress” Moroccan sports have achieved, according to Youssef Amrani, Morocco’s Ambassador to Washington.

“The presence of a Moroccan club in a world-class competition is a powerful signal that reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to excellence and the significant progress made by national sports,” stated Ambassador Amrani during his visit to the WAC training camp in Maryland, near Washington, D.C.
This participation, he said, reflects a “clear upward trajectory”, in line with the momentum driven by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, in promoting sustained development in the sports sector. This momentum is marked by improvements in performance levels, game quality, and the global visibility of Moroccan clubs, according to a statement from the Moroccan embassy.
On this occasion, Mr. Amrani expressed to the players and technical staff his pride and honor at seeing the Moroccan flag represented in the United States “by a Moroccan team with a remarkable legacy and undeniable potential.”
The visit was also an opportunity for the ambassador to deliver a message of support and hope, echoing the patriotic sentiment shared by the Moroccan community in the United States and by all those who have traveled from Morocco or abroad to accompany their club on this international journey.
According to Mr. Amrani, sport is a powerful tool of diplomacy, carrying far more than just emotional value—it conveys “a powerful message about Moroccan excellence, talent, and potential.”
The statement added that the upcoming organization of the Africa Cup of Nations (CAF) and the FIFA World Cup in Morocco highlights the country’s growing international stature and will mark new milestones in the Kingdom’s football history.
In an interview with DAZN, the official broadcaster of the tournament, Mr. Amrani expressed confidence that “the Moroccan team will shine not only through its athletic performance, but also through its ability to transform 90 minutes of football into a true platform for exchange, friendship, and cooperation between nations—on the fields of a strategic partner of Morocco: the United States of America.”
