Upper House Speakers Holds Talks with Peruvian Peer
Rabat - The Speaker of the House of Councillors, Mohamed Ould Errachid, met Monday in Rabat with the Speaker of the Congress of the Republic of Peru, Eduardo Salhuana Cavides, who is on a working visit to the Kingdom at the head of a high-level parliamentary delegation.

The meeting was an opportunity to highlight the depth of bilateral relations and their current political momentum within the framework of strong cooperation and coordination, particularly following the historic visit of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to Peru in 2004. That visit marked a major turning point in advancing this dynamic and helped open new horizons for South-South cooperation as a strategic choice for Morocco under the wise leadership of His Majesty the King, the Upper House said in a press release.
Both parties also expressed pride in the cultural, linguistic, and civilizational ties that unite the two friendly nations, which form the foundation for the development of bilateral relations across various fields, the same source added.
In this context, the Speaker of the House of Councillors lauded the commendable efforts and key initiatives undertaken by the Peruvian Congress to promote cooperation between the two countries. The most recent of these is a motion by the Peruvian Congress urging the executive branch to support Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara.
Ould Errachid also praised the consistent positions of representatives of the Republic of Peru within regional and continental parliamentary unions in Latin America. He highlighted the principled stances expressed in the Andean Parliament, the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament, and the geopolitical group within the Inter-Parliamentary Union, all of which support the Kingdom’s territorial integrity and the autonomy initiative for the southern provinces.
For his part, Salhuana Cavides reaffirmed the Peruvian Parliament’s support for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco and for the autonomy initiative proposed by Morocco as the only solution to the artificial conflict over the Moroccan Sahara, the statement noted.
He also welcomed the visit of the Speaker of the House of Councillors to the Republic of Peru in June, emphasizing his country’s interest in and commitment to benefiting from Morocco’s experience and leadership in numerous sectors, which position the Kingdom as a model under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
