CHAN 2024: Morocco Expects Tough Fixture Against DR Congo, Says Head Coach
Nairobi - Morocco’s national team coach Tarik Sektioui said, on Saturday in Nairobi, that the fixture against DR Congo, scheduled for Sunday in the fifth and final Group A game of the African Nations Championship (CHAN), will be highly competitive, given its decisive impact on the team’s progress in the tournament.

“We can consider this match as a final. It’s very important for us and for DR Congo,” Sektioui told a pre-match press conference, stressing that “we are fully aware of the stakes, determined and motivated to win.”
“Winning this match is crucial and will carry us to the next round,” he said, adding that “DR Congo has quick players in transition. We will organize and build our play according to the strengths of our opponent.”
In his view, “in this kind of competition, there are no weak or strong teams. What makes the difference is what happens on the field and the mental and physical preparation.” Each game, he explained, “has its own scenario, and we must pay attention to the small details that can change everything.”
“DR Congo has won the CHAN twice, and that’s all the more reason for us to play good football to control the game,” Sektioui added.
For his part, Moroccan player Mohamed Moufid emphasized the squad’s positive mindset ahead of the match, saying the players are all aware of the need to secure victory.
“We will be playing against an aggressive and compact team, but we have prepared well for this duel to be as efficient as possible,” he said, adding that “we approach every match as a final.”
Morocco’s local national team will face DR Congo on Sunday at Nairobi’s Nyayo Stadium.
