Morocco Outlasts Senegal in Tense CHAN Semi-Final Draw
Atlas Lions eye another CHAN final after tense 1–1 draw ends in penalties.

Morocco and Senegal produced a thrilling encounter in the CHAN semi-finals, finishing 1–1 in regular time before heading into a decisive penalty shootout. The clash, played at Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, was a battle of resilience and strategy, with neither side willing to yield.
Senegal struck first in the 16th minute when Joseph Layousse Samb converted a smart cut-back from Libasse Guèye. The goal injected energy into the Senegalese squad and briefly put Morocco on the back foot. However, the Atlas Lions regrouped quickly. Just seven minutes later, Sabir Bougrine found the equalizer with a header from a set-piece, restoring balance and igniting Moroccan fans in the stands.
The remainder of the match was tight and tactical. Morocco dominated possession, staying organized and disciplined at the back, while Senegal pressed high and searched for openings on the break. Both sides came close to breaking the deadlock, but defenses held firm until the final whistle.
For Morocco, the draw highlights their experience in high-pressure moments, keeping alive hopes of securing a third CHAN title after their victories in 2018 and 2020. Senegal, with a youthful and fearless squad, showed they are equally determined to write history of their own.
With the semi-final now decided by penalties, all eyes turn to the shootout to see who will earn the chance to face either Sudan or Madagascar in the final. Regardless of the outcome, Morocco’s consistent performances in this tournament continue to reflect the growing strength and maturity of Moroccan football.
