Morocco’s Jouahri, El Kettani Honored at 2025 AFIS Awards

Casablanca - Moroccan finance stood out at the 2025 AFIS Awards, held Monday in Casablanca as part of the 5th Africa Financial Summit (AFIS), through the recognition of Bank Al-Maghrib Governor Abdellatif Jouahri -named "African Central Bank Governor"- and Attijariwafa Bank Chairman and CEO Mohamed El Kettani, nominated as "African Banker".

“Jouahri was honored for his two decades at the service of monetary stability in Morocco, embodying prudence, credibility and excellent leadership at the continental scale. Under his leadership, Bank Al-Maghrib enshrined the dirham’s stability, reinforced banking regulation and supported Morocco’s transition towards a more flexible exchange rate, inspiring several African central banks,” according to a press release from the organizers.

For his part, El Kettani was recognized for a remarkable 29% increase in consolidated net income in 2024 and a network of 5,900 branches across Africa, reflecting the group’s performance and pan-African presence. The Attijariwafa Bank group has stood out as a strategic player in the financing of intra-African trade and the development of local economies in more than 15 countries.

Composed of independent experts from various backgrounds in the world of finance, the jury selected the winners based on rigorous criteria of impact, innovation, and sustainability.

Organized in partnership with Forvis Mazars, the 2025 AFIS Awards also recognized leaders, pioneers, and institutions in four other categories, namely “African Fund” (Helios Investment Partners), “African Woman in Finance” (Chilufya Mutale-Mwila, Co-Founder & Chief Visionary Officer, eShandi), “African Disrupter” (HUB2), and “African Insurer” (Heinie Werth, CEO, SanlamAllianz).

Founded by Jeune Afrique Media Group in 2021, with the support of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Africa Financial Summit is a sister organization of the Africa CEO Forum, the leading platform for the African private sector. It strives to build a robust financial industry at the service of real economy and sustainable development.
