ECOMONDO: Over 2,500 Participants Attend the 14th Edition of the General States of the Green Economy
More than 2,500 participants representing companies, institutions, and policymakers took part in the 14th edition of the General States of the Green Economy, held as part of ECOMONDO 2025, the world exhibition for ecological transition organized in Rimini, Italy, by Italian Exhibition Group (IEG).

“The General States of the Green Economy concluded with great success, thanks to the large number of participants both in person and online,” said the organizers on Wednesday at the Rimini Exhibition Centre, describing the event as a major international reference for the green, blue, and circular economy.
Over two days, speakers from five continents analyzed global environmental and economic scenarios involving Europe, the United States, and China, warning that ecological setbacks—driven by certain American policies and the hesitation of some European governments to fully implement the green transition—“are evident and must be contained.”
“This year again, the in-depth discussions on ecological transition in times of crisis and conflict generated strong interest and wide participation from the business community,” said Edo Ronchi, President of Italy’s Foundation for Sustainable Development.
“Unfortunately, at the end of these two days, we received a worrying signal from Europe,” he lamented, explaining that “although the EU Environment Council formally confirmed the goal of a 90% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2040, it also sent a negative message: this double flexibility weakens climate commitment.”
According to Ronchi, this flexibility allows up to 5% of non-European carbon credit purchases to be included in the EU carbon budget, while permitting a maximum 5% reduction in national climate contributions (CND).
“The climate won’t wait. Like public debt, which accumulates and must later be repaid with interest, this European slowdown increases the burden,” he warned.
During the 2025 edition, the General States of the Green Economy also presented their annual report, available online at www.statigenerali.org.
This 14th edition was organized by the Foundation for Sustainable Development in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Environment and Energy Security, and promoted by the National Council for the Green Economy, which brings together 66 business organizations.
As part of the 28th edition of ECOMONDO, the participatory process of the General States focused on analyzing perspectives, strategies, and policies for the green economy within the global debate. The event mobilized companies, institutions, and policymakers to formulate concrete proposals on decarbonization, sustainable resource management, and urban mobility.
ECOMONDO 2025 (November 4–7) is organized in collaboration with the European Commission, the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, the Emilia-Romagna Region, the City of Rimini, the National Association of Italian Municipalities, the National Automotive Industry Association, and the European Environment Agency.
