The Algerian Regime at the Heart of a Hezbollah Financing Scandal: A Complicity with Iran That Shakes the Entire Middle East

A new explosive scandal is set to permanently tarnish the image of the Algerian regime, already mired in a shaky diplomacy and dubious maneuvers. Indeed, Algerian diplomats are allegedly directly involved in the clandestine transfer of Iranian funds to Hezbollah in Lebanon, an organization classified as terrorist and under international sanctions. This revelation, reported by the pan-Arab daily Asharq al-Awsat, exposes a shadowy system in which Algiers acts as Tehran’s accomplice, endangering the stability of the entire Middle East.

Algeria: The New Middleman for Iran’s Mullahs

In response to these suspicions, the security service at Beirut International Airport (AIB) has tightened its control measures on flights arriving from Algeria and Iran, imposing a systematic and thorough search of passengers’ luggage, including those of Algerian diplomats. This exceptional measure reveals the scale of suspicions surrounding Algiers, which is now suspected of being a key link in the Iranian-orchestrated Hezbollah financing network.

According to Asharq al-Awsat, the procedures imposed on flights from Algeria are now identical to those applied to Iranian planes, highlighting the gravity of the suspicions. A high-ranking Lebanese security source confirmed that Algerian diplomats have served as intermediaries in the transfer of tens of millions of dollars to Hezbollah over the past three months.

A Complicity That Threatens Regional Security

In addition to these damning revelations, it has emerged that a major diplomatic crisis nearly erupted between Algiers and Beirut when Algerian diplomats refused to undergo security checks upon arrival in Beirut from Tehran. Although the Lebanese government attempted to keep this incident secret to avoid a full-fledged diplomatic conflict, the facts speak for themselves: Algeria is openly aligning itself with Iran’s destabilizing policy in the Middle East, disregarding the principles of sovereignty and regional security.

This scandal casts a harsh light on the Algerian regime’s drift, which, after failing to establish itself as a respected African power, is now immersing itself in dangerous geopolitical maneuvers, allying with the opaque strategies of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Algeria has consistently denied its involvement in illicit financial networks, but this time, evidence is mounting, and the international community may no longer turn a blind eye to these toxic collusions.

The Arab World and Middle Eastern Nations Must React

This latest scandal should serve as a wake-up call to all Middle Eastern countries, which cannot remain indifferent to Algeria’s progressive transformation into an extension of Iranian interests in the region. This regime, which has long manipulated Arab causes for purely geopolitical gains, is once again exposed in its hypocrisy.

By acting as a financial conduit for Hezbollah, Algeria is no longer positioning itself as a peace actor but as a source of instability and regional tensions. This dangerous shift will undoubtedly attract the attention of major powers and further isolate an already discredited regime.

It is now time for the international community to take action against this troubling alliance between the Algerian regime and Hezbollah’s financiers. By actively aiding in money laundering and financing a terrorist group, Algeria is taking a major risk—one that could lead to international sanctions and a complete collapse of its already waning diplomatic influence.
