The United States Reaffirms Its Full Recognition of Morocco’s Sovereignty Over Its Sahara

In a climate of strategic convergence and renewed friendship, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, was received in Washington by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. This high-level meeting, marked by mutual respect and consideration, represents a decisive new step in strengthening the historic partnership between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States of America.

At the heart of the discussions: Morocco’s national cause—the Sahara. With unequivocal diplomatic clarity, Secretary of State Marco Rubio reiterated the steadfast position of the United States, reaffirming that Washington recognizes Morocco’s full sovereignty over its Sahara. Furthermore, Marco Rubio emphasized that the Autonomy Initiative proposed by the Kingdom remains the only serious, credible, and realistic basis for achieving a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable resolution to this regional dispute.

In line with the historic decision of President Donald Trump in December 2020, the Secretary of State reaffirmed the United States’ unwavering commitment to peace and stability, calling on all concerned parties to engage without delay in constructive dialogue, based exclusively on the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative. Marco Rubio also underscored that the United States would play an active role in facilitating progress toward a final outcome that aligns with Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara.

This high-level exchange, conducted within the framework of the strategic alliance binding Rabat and Washington, testifies to the effectiveness and vision of Moroccan diplomacy, guided by the wisdom and foresight of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. Thanks to this royal guidance, Moroccan diplomacy continues to achieve resounding victories on the international stage, consolidating national gains and reinforcing the Kingdom’s role as a key player in regional stability.

Through this renewed and unequivocal American confirmation, the entire Moroccan people are once again reassured in their historical and legitimate rights over the Sahara, while the Autonomy Initiative—reaffirmed as the sole path to resolution—continues to gain global recognition.

Faithful to the Royal Vision, Nasser Bourita continues, with determination, to raise Morocco’s voice on the international stage, work for peace, and defend the Kingdom’s territorial integrity with dignity. This meeting with Marco Rubio in Washington will thus go down in history as a brilliant new chapter in Morocco’s triumphant diplomacy.
