The heads of Latin American parliamentary delegations taking part in the Forum, held under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, spoke of the necessity of giving fresh impetus to various forms of South-South cooperation, in order to find concrete solutions to common challenges such as economic growth, climate change, technological transformations and social disparities.
President of the Colombian Congress (Upper House of the Parliament) and Senate Efraín José Cepeda Sarabia welcomed the Forum as a platform for collective reflection on shared solutions, providing an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between parliamentarians from countries of the South to the benefit of economic, ecological and industrial growth of the relevant regions.
In the same spirit, President of the Chilean Senate José Garcia Ruminot called upon countries of the South to pool their efforts in several areas, in order to respond to an unpredictability global economy, the emergence of information and communication technologies, and the global economic crisis.
For his part, President of the Bolivian Senate Andrónico Rodríguez Ledezma underlined the vital role of parliaments in promoting South-South cooperation through the adoption of laws that encourage regional and continental integration, sustainable development and social justice.
In addition, the heads of delegation stressed the Forum’s added value as a platform for coordination between countries of the South, in order to devise concerted responses to major current issues, and to place South-South solidarity firmly on the international parliamentary agenda.
