Morocco Tops African Tourist Destinations in 2024, Says South African Daily

In 2024, Morocco welcomed 17.4 million visitors, compared to 15.7 million in Egypt, 10.25 million in Tunisia, 8.92 million in South Africa, and 2.4 million in Kenya, the daily reported.

Whether it’s discovering the wonders of Morocco, shopping in bustling local markets, exploring Egypt’s pyramids, or going on a safari in Kenya, Africa is once again firmly on the global travel map, the article stated.

According to IOL, tourism across Africa is witnessing steady growth, as an increasing number of travelers worldwide are drawn to the continent’s nature, history, and cultural richness.

Recent 2024 figures highlight a significant rise in international arrivals, with many countries experiencing notable growth compared to the previous year. This positive trend is driven by improved infrastructure, expanded digital connectivity, and more targeted efforts to promote local destinations.

The year-on-year increase reflects not only Africa’s vast diversity but also its commitment to making travel more accessible and attractive to global visitors. The growing demand for authentic travel experiences—whether cultural, ecological, or adventure-based—continues to boost tourism numbers.

The South African newspaper emphasized that North Africa remains in the lead, with countries like Morocco and Egypt drawing large numbers of tourists. Their proximity to Europe, combined with a wealth of historical sites and coastal attractions, makes them especially appealing to international travelers.

Eastern and Southern Africa also remain key regions for nature tourism and wildlife, offering unforgettable safari adventures and breathtaking landscapes that consistently captivate visitors.
