His Majesty the King Receives Three New Members of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary

These are Mr. Hicham Balaoui, whom the Sovereign has appointed as Public Prosecutor at the Court of Cassation and President of the Public Prosecution, member of the CSPJ; Mr. Hassan Tariq, appointed as a member of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary in his capacity as Mediator of the Kingdom; and Mr. Farid El Bacha, appointed by His Majesty the King as a member of the CSPJ.

On this occasion, the new members of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary took an oath before His Majesty the King.

The audience took place in the presence of Mr. Mohamed Abdennabaoui, Deputy President of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary.

Presided over by His Majesty the King, the Supreme Council of the Judiciary ensures the enforcement of guarantees granted to judges, particularly concerning their independence, appointment, promotion, retirement, and disciplinary matters.

On its own initiative, the Council prepares reports on the state of justice and the judicial system and submits appropriate recommendations in this regard. It also issues detailed opinions, at the request of His Majesty the King, the Government, or Parliament, on any matter relating to justice, subject to the principle of the separation of powers.

According to Article 115 of the Constitution, the CSPJ is composed of the First President of the Court of Cassation as Deputy President, the Public Prosecutor at the Court of Cassation, the President of the First Chamber of the Court of Cassation, four representatives elected by the judges of the Courts of Appeal from among themselves, and six representatives elected by judges of first-instance courts from among themselves.

It also includes the Mediator, the President of the National Human Rights Council, and five personalities appointed by His Majesty the King, recognized for their competence, impartiality, and integrity, and for their distinguished contribution to the independence of justice and the rule of law.
