Speaking at a press briefing following the first session of the Moroccan-Burundi Joint Cooperation Commission, co-chaired with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita, the head of Burundi’s diplomacy welcomed the positive impetus in bilateral relations, pointing out the growing momentum of these relations with the signing of several cooperation agreements.
“We now share a common objective: to move forward and effectively implement our commitments”, he asserted, wishing to see these commitments take shape through the work of the Joint Commission, which will meet alternately in Bujumbura and Rabat to monitor progress and map out new prospects.
With regard to the question of the Kingdom’s territorial integrity, Shingiro reiterated “clear, steadfast and lasting support for the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Morocco over its entire territory, including the Sahara region”.
“We adopt this position sincerely, consistently and unequivocally”, he maintained.
On a continental level, the Burundian minister reiterated his country’s commitment to Africa’s growth and international reach, calling for a change in mindsets to help the Continent play its full role on the world stage.
“We defend with conviction the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter, in particular those relating to sovereignty and territorial integrity”, he added, recalling that Burundi will chair the African Union starting February 2026.
“It’s a great responsibility that we will be undertaking seriously, and for which we are counting on the support of our partners, notably the Kingdom of Morocco”, he explained.
