Speaking at the opening of the third edition of the PAGE Green Crossroads Conference (The Partnership for Action on Green Economy), Mr. Hachlaf emphasized that Morocco, in line with the High Directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, has committed to a “voluntary and ambitious” vision that places sustainability at the heart of its development policy.
In this regard, Morocco is working to adapt its legislative and regulatory framework to match business climate needs, by promoting transparency, improving access to investment opportunities, and simplifying administrative procedures, he noted.
Taking the floor, Sanae Lahlou, representative of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in Morocco, stressed that joint efforts with relevant government departments, the private sector, and technical and financial partners are enabling the co-creation of innovative solutions, tailored to the national context but also reproducible across other African countries.
She illustrated this with concrete examples, including the revision of the National Strategy for Sustainable Development, the establishment of the Moroccan Coalition for Sustainable Energy Access with support from MASEN, and multi-stakeholder dialogues as well as South-South exchanges.
Matilde Ceravolo, Head of the Economic Competitiveness, Environment, and Infrastructure Section at the EU Delegation to Morocco, praised the spirit of partnership that binds Morocco and the EU in the green and inclusive transition, all within a framework guided by values of sustainability, carbon neutrality, and mutual commitment.
“Our mission is to build bridges—not just physical ones, but above all, human and institutional ones,” Ms. Ceravolo stated.
She underlined that Morocco is particularly well-positioned to become a key player in the green transition, thanks to its natural resources, political stability, and strategic vision.
Youssef Fadil, Director General of Industry at the Ministry of Industry and Trade, added that this event is a valuable opportunity to discuss and highlight concrete and innovative solutions for a green, equitable, and inclusive transition.
In Morocco, this transition is already underway and continues to gain momentum, respecting ecological balance, Mr. Fadil remarked. It now stands as an essential pillar of new sustainable development approaches, driving wealth creation and long-term employment.
The third edition of the PAGE Green Crossroads Conference is part of the Green Synergy Week, a UN-endorsed initiative aimed at accelerating the transition toward inclusive, low-carbon, and circular economies across the African continent.
The event, which runs until Tuesday, is jointly organized by Morocco’s Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development and UNIDO—the UN lead agency for the PAGE program in Morocco.
PAGE is a coalition bringing together UNIDO, UNEP, UNDP, ILO, and UNITAR. The program supports efforts toward green and equitable economies across Africa.
Throughout the week, participants are exploring how green policies can generate jobs, support just transitions, and strengthen regional resilience to climate and economic shocks. The conference places special emphasis on South-South and triangular cooperation, as well as on financial innovation to scale up successful initiatives continent-wide.
