The members of the delegation, who are on a working visit to Morocco, attended presentations and conducted field visits to closely observe the region’s potential and the infrastructure in its productive sectors.
In a press statement, Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Committee of Ghana’s Parliament, emphasized that this visit provides an opportunity to witness firsthand the progress made in the Southern Provinces, particularly in terms of infrastructure quality and human capital development, thanks to the visionary leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
He commended the socio-economic achievements and the developmental drive benefitting the local population in the region of Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra.
Mr. Vanderpuije further noted that “this visit allowed the delegation to see up close the implementation of impactful and tangible projects that support development not only in Morocco but across Africa.”
“Morocco presents a successful model in many fields, and we seek to establish joint cooperation, especially in business and investment,” he stated, expressing his country’s desire to strengthen its partnership with Morocco.
He also conveyed Ghana’s interest in benefiting from Morocco’s experience in youth vocational training and skills development, particularly in sports.
On this occasion, the delegation members watched an institutional film and attended a presentation at the regional council headquarters focused on the regional development program. They were informed about various development projects under the new development model for the Southern Provinces, launched by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in 2015.
Earlier in the day, the Ghanaian delegation met with Abdeslam Bekrate, Wali of the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region and governor of Laâyoune province. The meeting highlighted the region’s development process and investment opportunities.
During the meeting, Mr. Bekrate highlighted the principles of advanced regionalization and decentralization adopted by Morocco as a mode of local governance.
