“During my visit to Morocco, I announced the UK’s support for Morocco’s autonomy proposal, which we consider the most credible, viable, and pragmatic basis for resolving the conflict,” Lammy stated in a declaration to the House of Commons, the lower house of Westminster Parliament.
In this context, the UK’s top diplomat pointed out that “as the 50th anniversary of the conflict approaches, and with renewed international engagement, we have an opportunity to make progress on this issue.”
Lammy also emphasized the strong importance the UK places on strengthening cooperation with Morocco, noting that the two kingdoms are “long-standing partners working together on a range of shared priorities.”
He highlighted that Rabat and London are deepening their partnership to advance their common goals in terms of security, prosperity, and sustainable development.
Lammy took the opportunity to remind MPs of the series of partnership agreements announced during his recent visit to Rabat, across various sectors.
He further indicated that both countries have agreed to enhance cooperation in several critical areas, including:
- Migration
- Counter-terrorism
- Water management
- Climate change.
