Speaking at the regular session of the UN Committee of 24 (C-24), held currently in New York, Saint Lucia’s representative, Carlton Ronnie Henry, stressed that this initiative, described as serious and credible in successive Security Council resolutions since 2007, is consistent with international law, the United Nations Charter, and Security Council and General Assembly resolutions.

He also welcomed the growing momentum of international support for the Moroccan Autonomy plan.

The diplomat further called for the resumption of the roundtable process under the same format and with the same participants, namely Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania, and the “polisario”.

Reiterating his country’s support for a just, compromise-based, and mutually acceptable solution between the parties through dialogue, the speaker indicated that his Saint Lucia supports the efforts of the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy to the Moroccan Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, aimed at facilitating the resumption of the political process under the auspices of the United Nations.
