This meeting is part of the implementation of the joint Morocco-ASEAN roadmap for the 2024–2028 period, Minister Mezzour stated, noting that the roadmap covers several sectors of shared interest, including electric vehicle industries and smart, sustainable cities.
“ASEAN brings together ten dynamic countries with advanced industrial and commercial expertise and represents a source of global investment and technological innovation,” he added.
The Minister also emphasized the Kingdom’s commitment, in line with the High Royal Guidelines, to diversifying its economic and trade partnerships with emerging regional hubs.
For his part, Kim Hourn praised Morocco’s engagement in the sectoral partnership established between the two parties in 2023, noting that trade volume reached 1.55 billion US dollars in 2024.
“While significant, this figure does not yet reflect the full potential of ASEAN-Morocco cooperation,” he said.
The ASEAN Secretary-General therefore called for deepened collaboration in the areas of trade, investment, and tourism, and urged stronger exchanges between the chambers of commerce on both sides.
“ASEAN has a Business Advisory Council that brings together the ten national chambers of commerce, which could engage in meaningful dialogue with Morocco’s chamber to identify new opportunities,” he asserted.
Highlighting the complementarities between the two regions, Kim Hourn described Morocco as a “strategic gateway” to Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, while ASEAN benefits from a wide network of free trade agreements with major partners such as China, Japan, South Korea, India, and Australia.
This rapprochement is part of the ASEAN-Morocco sectoral dialogue, officially launched in 2023, and aims to strengthen synergies between the two sides through pragmatic and mutually beneficial cooperation.
