Speaking at the 9th Summit of Speakers of Parliaments of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (PA-UfM), Talbi El Alami said that the two-state solution “will close the door to extremism and pave the way towards coexistence, cooperation, and shared prosperity and direct the potential and wealth of the region to development, prosperity, and decent life.”
According to him, settling the issues facing the region inevitably requires to put an end to the war in Gaza, which, he described, as “an urgent priority as His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Chairperson of Al-Quds Committee, has always reiterated.”
The region, he warned, “will remain captive to violence, chauvinism, extremism, and instability, as long as the Palestinian population, under the leadership of their internationally recognized official institutions, are not granted their legitimate right to acquire independence and construct their sovereign national State”, with East Jerusalem as its capital, according to the resolutions of international legitimacy.
The Lower House Speaker highlighted the need for Euro-Mediterranean Parliaments to settle this issue, namely in the face of these major challenges arising in the region and the world.
