EU Reaffirms That None of Its Member States Recognize the So-Called “rasd”

The statement came in response to a wave of overcommunication by separatist outlets surrounding the European Union–African Union ministerial meeting taking place in Rome this Friday.

Recalling that the EU–AU ministerial meetings are co-chaired and co-organized by both the EU and the AU, the EU spokesperson stressed that “the agreed modalities provide that each side is responsible for inviting its own members.”

He therefore attributed the presence of the so-called entity at the EU–AU ministerial to the African Union, denying any suggestion that the EU had invited the “rasd” to the meeting. “Invitations to African members are sent by the African Union,” he stated.

In this context, the spokesperson underlined, “The EU’s position is well known: neither the EU nor any of its member states recognize the rasd,” adding that the presence of this entity at the EU–AU ministerial meeting “has no bearing whatsoever on that position.”
