The reforms undertaken in fields of priority such as social protection, mandatory health insurance, housing, education and health reflect the Kingdom’s strong commitment to improving the living conditions of its citizens and laying the foundation for an inclusive and sustainable development, Akhannouch said during the 4th UN International Conference on Financing for Development.
The Head of Government added that efforts made in this area in recent years have led to a significant broadening of the tax base, a more effective fight against tax evasion and a tax environment more conducive to development, noting that despite these resources, the financing of these structuring and ambitious projects still requires the mobilization of additional resources.
Turning to the prospects for reforming international financing mechanisms, Akhannouch stressed the importance of engaging in constructive dialogue between traditional financial institutions and new generations of economic and social players, in order to better respond to the legitimate aspirations of citizens.
Hence the importance, in his view, of this UN International Conference on Financing for Development, which takes place against a backdrop of major global economic challenges and growing public expectations.
He concluded that, as a middle-income country, Morocco aims to contribute to the definition of new financing approaches on a global scale, capable of guaranteeing equitable and sustainable growth.
Akhannouch is representing HM King Mohammed VI to the UN International Conference on Financing for Development, accompanied by a delegation mainly including Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Morocco to the UN Omar Hilale and Morocco’s Ambassador to Spain, Karima Benyaich.
