The Olympic gold medalist from Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024, and reigning world champion in 2022 and 2023, dominated his signature event, crossing the finish line in 8:03.18.
On the famously fast track of the Stade Louis-II, known for producing standout times, El Bakkali (29) ran a perfectly calculated race. He took the lead early and maintained control for over two laps before launching a strong final push on the home straight, finishing with a clear advantage over his closest competitors.
He was followed by Japan’s Ryuji Miura, who clocked 8:03.43, while Kenya’s Edmund Serem rounded out the podium in 8:04.00.
Moroccan runner Salaheddine Ben Yazide placed fourth, setting a new personal best of 8:06.44.
The world record for the event is held by Ethiopia’s Olympic silver medalist Lamecha Girma at 7:52.11. He did not compete in Monaco.
With this prestigious win, El Bakkali further cements his dominance in the discipline and strengthens his lead in the Diamond League standings.
