In a press statement following his talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, Zuma expressed his delight at being in Rabat, noting that this visit is a natural continuation of his meeting with His Majesty the King, during which “the two leaders agreed to find ways of ending the stalemate between the two countries and relaunching a new chapter on the bilateral relations resulting in the exchange of Ambassadors.”
“We are very delighted and honoured to be here in Rabat to deepen the historical bond between our two countries that started during the days of the fight against apartheid,” emphasized the former South African President.
Zuma also recalled that “our great leader Nelson Mandela trained in Morocco (Oujda) in 1962 and received financial and military support that was extended to the liberation movement in South Africa and the continent.”
“The relationship between our two countries has a great potential for greatness,” he stressed, referring to the political position adopted by his party as outlined in the document titled “Strategic Partnership for African Unity, Economic Emancipation, and Territorial Integrity,” published last month.
In this document, he added, “our party touched all the essential elements that will conduce a new impetus to the bilateral relations, in order to achieve the mutual interest of our two nations while striving to achieve a model of African excellence.”
Zuma is currently visiting Morocco as leader of the MK party, accompanied by several members of his delegation. During his visit, he is scheduled to meet with a number of Moroccan political figures.
