Morocco’s Lower House Speaker Receives Former South African President Jacob Zuma

The meeting, which was attended by the presidents of parliamentary groups within the House of Representatives, provided an opportunity to welcome the MK Party’s clear stance in support of Morocco’s autonomy plan for the Sahara.

According to a statement from the House, Mr. Zuma and his party affirmed that the autonomy initiative, proposed by the Kingdom, offers a viable framework for local governance by the populations of the Sahara while preserving Morocco’s sovereignty over its territories.

They also acknowledged the historical and legal legitimacy underpinning Morocco’s claim to the Sahara, stressing that the Kingdom’s efforts to restore its full territorial integrity align with the MK Party’s core principles of defending national sovereignty and territorial unity across Africa.

The meeting also served to underscore Morocco’s African policy under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI—one based on solidarity, sustainable development, and South-South cooperation, in full respect for national sovereignty and the principle of non-interference in domestic affairs.

The visit by the former South African President further provided an opportunity to explore avenues for enhanced parliamentary cooperation. Discussions touched on various issues of mutual interest, with the Moroccan side expressing its readiness to strengthen ties with South African parliamentarians at both bilateral and multilateral levels.
